What we help with

Fund holds

When a processor freezes funds under review, every day matters. We know the right escalation paths and what documentation the processor needs to release a hold. We've navigated this with processors at the senior level.

Account termination notices

A termination notice gives you a window to respond. If you're still in that window, we can help. We've helped merchants build the response documentation that reversed terminations that looked final.

MATCH listing situations

A MATCH listing (Terminated Merchant File) follows your business for five years and closes most processor doors. We've successfully contested MATCH placements through direct escalation when the listing was erroneous or disproportionate.

Monitoring program violations

Visa VAMP or Mastercard monitoring program placement puts you on a remediation timeline with monthly fines. We build the remediation plan your processor needs and help you execute it before termination follows.

Reserve disputes

Excessive or improperly held reserves are a common processor tactic. We help merchants understand what reserves are contractually required versus what's being held as a risk buffer, and build the case for release.

Emergency processor placement

When your current processor relationship is ending, you need a replacement in place fast; ideally before the transition, not after. We move quickly on emergency placements for merchants who need continuity.

Why these situations require expertise

Processor disputes are not standard customer service issues. The people who handle them are in risk and underwriting departments, not front-line support. They respond to specific documentation, specific framing, and in many cases, specific relationships.

Cambridge has worked directly with processor risk teams, underwriting departments, and senior operations contacts at multiple processors over 25 years. We know what they need to see, how to present it, and who to escalate to when standard channels don't move fast enough.

The merchants who come to us after trying to resolve these situations on their own through normal support channels have almost universally found it slower, less effective, and more stressful than working with someone who already knows the path.

"Our processor put a hold on $180,000 in funds on a Friday afternoon. By Monday morning, Cambridge had us in direct contact with the right person at the processor and had a release plan in place. We had most of the funds released within a week. I don't know what we would have done without that call."

Understanding MATCH listings

The MATCH (Member Alert to Control High-risk Merchants) list is a database maintained by Mastercard that processors use to screen merchant applications. If you're placed on MATCH, most standard processors will decline your application automatically.

MATCH listings last five years and are placed for specific reason codes ranging from excessive chargebacks to fraud to data compromise. Importantly, processors are required to follow specific rules when placing a merchant on MATCH, and errors or improper placements do happen.

Prevention is always better than response. Most of the situations on this page are preventable with the right monitoring, proactive communication, and account structure. If you're not currently in a crisis, the best time to talk to Cambridge is before one happens; not after.

Frequently asked questions

Can you really get a hold released or a termination reversed?
Not always. But we have done both, multiple times. The outcome depends on the processor, the reason for the action, and how quickly we can respond. The merchants who wait too long or who try to navigate it themselves first tend to have fewer options by the time they call us. If you're in this situation, call immediately.
What does a MATCH listing removal require?
Removal requires engaging the processor that placed the listing and demonstrating either that the listing was made in error or that the specific criteria for removal are met. Legitimate removals happen; they require documentation, direct contact with the placing institution, and patience. We've successfully navigated this for merchants who were improperly listed.
How fast can you get emergency processing in place?
For standard-risk merchants with clean history, we've facilitated emergency approvals in as little as 24 to 48 hours. High-risk or MATCH situations take longer. The sooner you call, the more options we have.
We win, when you win.
